Mike Block, cellist, to perform on October 26th


We are so pleased to welcome Mike Block back to our concert series. Mike, hailed by Yo-Yo Ma as the "ideal musician of the 21st Century", is a pioneering multi-style cellist, composer, and educator living in Boston with his wife, violinist, Hanneke Cassel and their young daughter. While studying at the Juilliard School, Mike joined Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, and shortly thereafter also joined Mark O'Connor's Appalachia Waltz Trio, which he played in for over three years. Mike has also toured extensively with Darol Anger's Republic of Strings and The Knights orchestra. Mike is Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He also joined the faculty of New England Conservatory through the Contemporary Improvisation program. He is also the founder of the Mike Block String Camp in Vero Beach, Florida, which is dedicated to the education of young string players. Mike has recently released,“It’s Time to Dance”, a new album of original pop/rock songs! which will be available the night of the concert.
